How to Find Topics to Blog About

  06/09/2021

Blog sections of a website are among the most common elements to include on your business or personal website. This blog section should include blog posts that are of interest to your current and potential customers, but what do you do when you run out of blog post ideas?

If you find yourself running out of topics to blog about for your website, here are a few things you can do to help you find blog topics.

1.    Ask Your Customers

A blog should always be adding value to your customers’ or potential customers’ days. After all, they are taking time out of their day to read your blog.

A great way to make sure that your company’s blog is covering topics of interest to your audience is to ask them what topics they would like to see covered in your blog. Asking them can be as informal as setting up a poll on social media (Twitter or Facebook have built-in options to do this) or more in-depth, like linking a survey in an edition of your email newsletter.

Once your customers provide feedback, create blogs around the topics that they suggested but that you have not yet posted about.

2.    Use a Free Keyword Tool

For added SEO value, create blog posts around terms that people are already searching for on search engines. Free tools like Google Search Console or AnswerThePublic can show what keywords people are already searching for the most often related to your business’ industry.

For example, if you are a freelancer, you could enter the keyword “freelancer” to see which related terms get the most searches.

In this case, you would see that people search for “How to start as a freelancer,” in which case you could create a blog around your personal experience and how you began your journey in this career. This will give your audience more insight on the face behind the business.

3.    Check Out a Book (or E-Book)

Believe it or not, the table of contents in books and e-books is a great place to refer to for blog topics ideas that are related to your business’ industry or niche.

Purchase or check out a book or e-book related to your overall business, and then see how the author breaks down the chapters. Each chapter topic can easily make for one or more blog posts that your company can create and tailor to your audience.

Once you’ve compiled a list of some topics to blog about, best practices suggest that you should create a blogging schedule and stick to it. This can be as frequent as publishing a new blog daily, or just one every few weeks.
